Halff’s services for the McAllen ISD’s school video surveillance systems went beyond specifications and construction documents. Halff’s consulting team brought over 20 years of public sector security and IT experience, providing the best-fitting options for the project. The team also worked with contractors during construction to ensure all components were installed correctly, on time and within budget. The Halff team sat with the security team to ensure that cybersecurity features such as default password changes, hardware/firmware updates and cybersecurity policies were configured for a turn-key operation.
Halff provided a BICSI set of construction drawings and specifications for six middle school facilities to replace the existing proprietary video surveillance system to an open platform enterprise video management and surveillance system.
The upgrade consisted of camera replacements using Power Over Ethernet (POE) network based cameras, video management server and cat-6a structured cabling. Additional upgrades included self-contained climatized cabinets with access-controlled cabinet doors, and a rack UPS. Specialized connectivity included an extended length cat-6a cable to reduce the need for cable extenders or fiber to the camera for interior runs exceeding the 100m distance.
